Collector’s Cove Demo – Relaxed Gameplay on Steam Deck

German based, Independent Indie Game studio, VoodooDuck, may be small, but they are a talent‑dense indie team with experience in both major studios and other successful indie projects. Their latest offering is Collectors Cove, a demo of a relaxed game that I tested out on Steam Deck.

Collector’s Cove is a cosy farming and exploration game. It blends farming, collecting, and gentle exploration into a relaxing loop with no combat or enemies. You travel on a floating farm‑boat with a cute dinosaur‑like creature, known as a fablefin. You travel the open seas, discovering new islands, climates, crops, and fish. Think Animal Crossing meets Moonglow Bay.

Gameplay

With the demo, you have the first 7 days to familiarise yourself with the mechanics and explore the islands.

Key elements:

  • Floating farm life. Plant crops, water garden beds, and expand your deck into a personalised home.
  • A Fabled Creature companion. A friendly dinosaur travels with you, helping define the game’s warm tone.
  • Island discovery. Each island has unique flora, fish, and environmental themes.
  • Collector’s Compendium. A central progression system where you catalogue rare finds to rise toward the title of Named Collector.
  • Crafting & customisation. Decorate your ship, craft items, and shape your floating base.

Artwork

The game uses a bright, pastel‑leaning palette with clean, readable shapes. Environments are designed to feel friendly and uncluttered, with smooth edges and soft lighting that emphasise comfort over realism. This gives the world a toy‑box quality, making each island feel approachable and distinct.

  • Soft, stylised models. Characters, creatures, and props use rounded silhouettes and minimal hard edges.
  • Warm lighting. Scenes often feature gentle ambient light, avoiding harsh shadows to maintain a cosy tone.
  • Pastel oceans and skies. The sea is rendered in calm blues and greens, reinforcing the relaxing mood.

The art direction isn’t just pretty, it’s functional.

Music

The main menu theme is a soft, melodic loop that sets the tone immediately. Gentle, looping ambient tracks that match its slow‑paced farming and exploration.

The soundtrack is built to complement the game’s core feelings of calm and discovery. Soft ambient tracks help maintain a sense of peaceful wandering as you sail between islands. There are no sharp transitions. Keeping the mood steady and relaxed. Perfect for a cosy video game.

Steam Deck Performance

Collector’s Cove is built with the Steam Deck in mind, and it shows. It flows seamlessly. I loved the number of settings that you could adjust. Keeping in mind that this is the demo, it was seriously impressive. Naturally, I had everything set on maximum. I wanted to put the Deck and game through its paces. Other than the battery draining quickly, the game and Steam Deck did not stutter. (Dropping some of the settings from Epic, I hope, would address the battery drain).

Navigation was easy and flawless. It has been developed with the Steam Deck original layout in mind.

If you are looking for a “chillaxing” game, do not discard this one. It is worth installing what I found to be a VERY comprehensive demo and making your own mind up.

CPU: 34% – 58%
Battery: 24w
FPS: 46 – 60
GPU: 94 – 99%
All settings were set to EPIC and unlimited

Overall, smooth framerate in the demo, no compatibility issues and no control remapping needed.

In Summary

After 116 minutes of gameplay, I made it through the first 7 days. I met my Uncles and bonded with my FableFin. Gameplay from the demo will be carried forward to the full game when released.

Collector’s Cove delivers a gentle, low‑pressure farming and exploration loop set on a floating boat‑farm. It leans heavily into cosy aesthetics, soft visuals, and a relaxed pace. There’s no combat, no time pressure, and no fail states. The game is built for players who want a soothing, collectible‑driven adventure.

Collector’s Cove is shaping up to be a standout cosy game for 2026. Polished, charming, and mechanically focused on collecting rather than farming micromanagement. It’s ideal for players who enjoy slow, comforting progression and exploration without stress.

The game will be released on 12th March 2026 on Steam, Epic Games Store and PlayStation 5.
