The Eternal Life of Goldman: Hand‑Drawn Action‑Adventure Coming in 2026

The Eternal Life of Goldman is a hand‑drawn action‑platformer by Weappy Studio and published by THQ Nordic.

The game is built around classic frame‑by‑frame animation, giving it a richly illustrated, almost storybook feel. The Eternal Life of Goldman is the result of years of work by people who love and appreciate cartoons, comics and games. It is meticulously drawn, coloured, and animated by hand using classic frame-by-frame techniques. Every place, every object, every character, every visual effect — everything is carefully planned and executed to the finest detail.

It’s a challenging platformer, but one which encourages exploration not muscle memory! It will not have you backtracking after you gain a new ability or artefact. The story is multi-layered with complex scenes and robust characters.

You arrive at the Archipelago on a strange mission: to kill the Deity. A mystical creature that everyone talks about, but no one has seen. To find the Deity, you will have to delve deep into the many secrets these islands keep. You will discover a place marked by tragedy, and filled with eccentric characters and remarkable contrasts.

One of the game’s defining mechanics is the upgradeable cane:

  • You collect new parts that change how the cane behaves.
  • Upgrades unlock new traversal abilities (e.g., extended jumps, mobility boosts) and combat techniques.
  • These upgrades are essential for both combat mastery and world navigation, reinforcing the Metroidvania design.

Upgrade your cane with new parts and unlock new abilities, to explore the hidden corners of the Archipelago and face incredible creatures.

If you blend the precision platforming of Hollow Knight, the storybook world building of Child of Light, and the hand‑drawn charm of Cuphead (without the punishing difficulty), you will get a good sense of what The Eternal Life of Goldman is aiming for.

The Eternal Life of Goldman will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there is no release date other than “coming soon”. The good news is that there is a demo available to play.
