Arise Dark Lord -The RTS Power Trip You Have Been Waiting For

Dark hooded skeletal sorcerer casting red magic in front of a dark fortress and dragon-filled sky.

Arise Dark Lord is an action-strategy hybrid RTS. It blends tower defence, base building, and direct control of your Dark Lord avatar. Raise an undead army against humanity. Developed and published by Introversion Software. The BAFTA and IGF award-winning developers of seven indie videogames, including Prison Architect, DEFCON, Darwinia, and The Last Starship.

Gameplay

An action-strategy hybrid RTS, blending tower defence, base building and direct control of your Dark Lord avatar.

You are The Dark Lord, and your goal is to raise an undead army and crush the feckless, godless heathens. Or as I like to call them: humans. As your sorcery and your evil army grow, all of the world will rise up against you. Their aim to destroy your Dark Tower and end your reign of terror. To stop this you must fortify your dark realm, upgrade your sorcery, and build enough strength to march out and crush the humans once and for all.

Announcement Trailer from Introversion Software for Arise Dark Lord

In this hybrid RTS, you step directly into the role of the Dark Lord, guiding his every move with a keyboard, mouse, or controller. As you tear through human civilisation with brutal sorcery, each fallen foe feeds your Mana, letting you unleash even more destructive magic. You’ll call up huge orc armies from the underworld and even raise the dead to fight again as zombies, swelling your forces with every battle.

The world itself bends under your influence. Peaceful forests twist into something sinister, mountains darken, and the land becomes a resource for your growing empire. You gather what you need to arm your troops and construct towering, near‑impenetrable defenses. Your Dark Tower becomes the heart of your domain, protected by vicious turrets, siege engines, barricades, and cursed traps to hold back the inevitable human counterattacks.

Release Details

Arise Dark Lord will be released on Steam. At the time of writing there is no release date other than 2027. However, there is a prototype available for you to try here. If Introversion Studios previous games are to be used as a benchmark then for me this is one to add to my Wishlist.
